How the Stars Fell into the Sky

by Jerrie Oughton
Illustrated by Lisa Desimini

One Potato Review

Courtesy of a Navajo legend accounting for all of the disorders and injustices of earthly living. Well, at least it’s not a lisping snake. Coyote’s the spoiler here – from impatience of all things. Original Man is out hunting presumably, and making unhelpful suggestions, but original Woman seems up to the task, and correctly assigns at least a few of the stars to their rightful locations, before Coyote pulls the rug out from under. Demini’s illustrations make this work: her lengthy shadows and bottomless colors evoking the promise of a world before it wakes up.
