Anna Banana and Me

One Potato Review

Don’t be fooled by the title, which sounds like something you could maybe find on Nick Jr, and anyway it should probably read Anna Banana and I. Because these two children (or this one, depending on whether you believe Anna really exists) are fully subjects in all of their imaginative play – building and climbing and exploring – indeed it’s the city that’s finally their playground. There’s plenty to do, and plenty to worry about also, though nowhere parents (or babysitters or therapists) to moderate the risks. That’s maybe just as well, because the kid who can invent a horrible tomato-faced goblin from almost nothing is likely also capable of producing a magic feather to help him escape. Sprightly, uplifting, and handy for many ages.
