The Little Boat

One Potato Review

“An old piece of styrofoam with a stick for a mast and a string tail sail” makes its lonely way across the ocean. This story reads simply enough for very young children, with never a comma to break it’s momentum, and drawings that magnificently convey the scale and epic strangeness of a world where everything is poised to end in disaster, but sometimes, miraculously, doesn’t. Favorite moment: a big fish strikes, clutching and dragging the little boat down into “a world of fins and claws and slippery things and rocks and wrecks of ancient ships and ocean creatures no one’s seen.”
