The Books
One Potato Review
From the brilliant and prolific Lauren Child: Charlie and Lola may seem everywhere these days (not least on the TV), still let’s not take their creator for granted. This book is pretty much what it sounds like on it’s surface, but the wonder remains how easy it is to get sucked in. This is partly attributable to Child’s graphic resourcefulness (here is an artist who apparently never throws anything away), and part to Trixie’s stoic angst. This dog can’t talk – not to psychic or psychiatrist. In a genre spilling over with hyper-verbal princesses and ballerinas, there’s finally something even a little poignant about her voicelessness.
