This is unfortunately the sort of literary and artistic wonder that falls between the cracks when young readers are in such a hurry to graduate to often insipid chapter books, but if you’re not afraid of looking like an extremely clever baby, here is the typically riotous Seibold on jobs versus hobbies, drawing versus photography – and dogs: in cars, in stores and in pairs, dogs who talk (on TV), and senior dogs who “always look me in the eye as if I were an old friend.” The book is also conveniently organized by chapters - “History,” “Composition,” “Common (Avoidable) Hazards of Dog Photography” – for those who depend on such things, and concludes with a “Helpful Photo Hint”: “Everyone and everything in life can be beautiful. It is just a matter of how you frame it. And it is not necessary to limit yourself to dogs.” Richy rewarding.
