One Potato Review
One of the highlights of a prolific career; it’s probably not incidental that here Peet’s unburdened from rhyming. Because this is a good enough story as it is: a squirrel who hears talk of great trees in the West, “not measly small like here in the city.” How he ends up traveling in that direction is predictably thrilling (we’ve taken this ride, with Curious George, among others) but where he’s deposited remains a little uplifting, no matter how many times you read it: in the course of two pages, here is the journey from “Be careful what you wish for,” to “Don’t stop believing,” and it’s a credit to this artist that he can make that look original.
