One Potato Review
Life is so settled and predictable on Davenport Street that one of three wishes, when they are granted, turns out to be focused on a malfunctioning toaster. Another promises to transport these middle class dogs to a tropical paradise where the natives will not stop their insufferable celebrating. One family’s tedium is another’s what-if, and while there’s nothing particularly surprising about how things turn out, the device comes to life like the appliances – a squirrel in the kitchen?! – and the loitering gang of crocodiles is a convincing reminder of the sort of little nuisances we count on, plan around, and even define ourselves by. This is all in good fun, wry and laconic, with here and there an animal hilariously losing his peanuts. For many ages.
