The Books

One Potato Review

A rare find, befitting a story from and about Papua New Guinea, areas of which are to this day inhabited by people who have never had any contact with the rest of human history. The village depicted here is somewhat less remote – “almost every house in Bongu has a transistor radio” – still what are they to make of the news of a person on the moon? If ever you needed a book to convey to your children both the unthinkable largeness and smallness of our world, this tattered, striking artifact from something called Island Heritage Limited is as relevant today as it was back in 1975 when it was published.
