Swan Sky

by Keizaburo Tejima

One Potato Review

Subtle and extraordinary. Particularly for children already coping with the death of a loved one, this simple story of a swan who cannot make the journey back north with her family strikes a thoughtful balance between the stark and sentimental. Death has got everyone flummoxed: not even the swans know what to make of their waning companion, and they leave, and come back, before deciding. In different shades of blue, with just enough light to be consoling.
