The Books

Our Granny

One Potato Review

My granny, your granny. Still, this book is unusual for it’s candor: some of these old folks live in nursing homes, and some “nowhere at all.” Some have bristly chins, or wobbly bottoms. Dead spouses. Some have lives. All too often in children’s literature grandparents are reduced to smiley, storytelling ciphers. It’s refreshing at least, and even a little shocking to see them described as living, thinking humans. Sweet, but not saccharine.
