Wise beyond its appearance. The monster here may seem familiar, crunching and munching and chewing and scratchily wreaking havoc across Mr. and Mrs. Mo’s middle-class domicile, but “he only knew what he knew,” and how surprising is it finally when he learns to behave himself? The winning formula here includes a crafts project, cake batter, a little curiosity (the Monster’s) and a great deal of faith (from Mrs. Mo, who looks like she’s been down this block before). More rowdy marauders at the end recommend less mythical interventions.
