Henry the Dog with No Tail

by Kate Feiffer
Illustrated by Jules Feiffer

One Potato Review

Shades of Dr. Seuss’s Gertrude McFuzz, about a bird who is finally weighed down by the tail she always wanted, only the dog in this story ends up wagging and snagging himself into a tree. Electromagnetic details aside, this is a pretty straightforward fable about the stuff we don’t have, and the neighbors who do, but it gets a little spark from Jules Feiffer’s kinetic illustrations (he really likes dogs), and a couple of lunatic touches like Henry traveling with a wagon full of provisions to Battery Park – where, of course, he finds batteries.
